According to Greger Larson, an archaeologist and geneticist, grey wolves were domesticated by humans somewhere in western Eurasia. He surmises individuals in the East were domesticating wolves at the same time.

ABOUT THE DOMESTIC DOG

Dogs were probably the first tame animals. They’ve accompanied humans for at least 20,000 years and maybe as many as 40,000. Scientists generally agree that all dogs, domestic and wild, share a frequent wolf ancestor; at some stage, grey wolves and dogs went to their separate evolutionary ways.

Dog Breeds

Communication

A study led by Nagasawa found when dogs and individuals gaze into each other’s eyes, the identical hormone is released in both the humans and the dogs.

Dog breeds vary in popularity. From the 1890s, Saint Bernards were the No. 1 strain but since the 1990s, Labrador Retrievers are the favoured.
